Highly anticipated new luxury hotel The Peninsula is welcoming its first guests
The Peninsula London opens in Knightsbridge
Knightsbridge is home to some of the finest luxury hotels in the capital – many of which have been established for decades. But now comes the exciting launch of a brand-new five-star bolthole, more than 30 years in the making.
The Peninsula London is only the 12th launch of the luxury Asian brand in its 157-year history, and the first in Britain. It was designed by London-based Hopkins Architects to blend into its prestigious surroundings, with palatial yet elegant spaces filled with natural light. The property centres around an expansive off-street courtyard, landscaped by celebrated designer Enzo Enea with climbing jasmine and wisteria vines and two 120-year-old Japanese maples (the oldest trees of their kind in Europe). Inside, architect and interior designer Peter Marino has created a refined and sophisticated aesthetic inspired by grandiose British houses and the surrounding natural beauty of Hyde Park.
Sonja Vodusek, managing director of The Peninsula London explained that this ‘exceptional’ new hotel has been ‘a complex and creative project, many years in the making’.
‘The Peninsula searched for the perfect location in London for over three decades, and now after much craft, care and consideration, and through the dedication of our people, we hope our hotel will stand out not only in London but globally for generations to come.”
The hotel is positioned between Hyde Park Corner and Wellington Arch and expertly balances a sense of occasion with understated elegance, as well as a distinctive East-meets-West design and aesthetic.
Inside, the hotel is home to 190 rooms and suites, plus 25 private residences. World-class dining takes precedence, with six restaurants, bars, and lounges to peruse. The Lobby is where visitors can partake in a Peninsula Afternoon Tea, often accompanied by live music, while The Peninsula Boutique and Café offers more casual all-day dining. Canton Blue and its adjacent bar, Little Blue, is where to sample innovative Chinese cuisine, cocktails and teas. And coming in October is the launch of the Peninsula’s signature rooftop restaurant, Brooklands, with Michelin-starred chef director Claude Bosi at the helm, as well as the Brooklands Bar on the 8th floor overlooking the London skyline.
Vodusek added: ‘We are very excited to welcome local residents and international visitors alike to experience this exceptional property and to enjoy The Peninsula’s sophisticated hospitality and service in one of the world’s most dynamic cities.’
