Catch new exhibition Lost in Time this spring/summer
The Lanesborough introduces new artist in residence
As part of its ongoing Art Programme, which aims to support and champion the work of young British talent, five-star hotel The Lanesborough has introduced a new exhibition from one-to-watch artist Lucas Console-Verma this spring.
Titled Lost in Time, the collection of oil paintings is the first solo exhibition from Winchester School of Art graduate Console-Verma and will be presented in The Lanesborough Grill. The title and theme refer to the British artist’s interest in lost and dilapidated masterpieces from history, which are sometimes stolen, missing or degraded due to neglect or the passing of time. For this inaugural exhibition, he has drawn on the materials and stories of paintings such as Rembrandt’s stolen Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee and Henri Matisse’s Pastoral, and used digital collage and AI to reimagine them through a contemporary lens.
‘Going beyond robotic replication, this new series of paintings tries to explore the complexities of recapturing the past,’ explains the artist. ‘All we have left is an impression – a trace of what once was.’
Console-Verma is certainly a name to watch and has gained significant attention from galleries, curators and collectors since graduation. He was awarded the prestigious Nancy Balfour Prize while still at university and was nominated for the Freelands Painting Prize in 2023. Lost in Time at The Lanesborough Grill is his debut solo exhibition and will be on display from 9 May 2024.
