The food writer and social media sensation shares his favourite late-night haunts in SW1
Henry Southan’s guide to late-night dining in Knightsbridge
Knightsbridge has always had a certain sparkle. Some of my earliest memories are the lights of Harrods beaming up Brompton Road – a sort of childhood North Star guiding me towards the idea of London as something glamorous, grownup and ever so slightly magical.
But after dark? People assume you hop on the Piccadilly line and abandon the area entirely if you want any real nightlife. In reality, Knightsbridge has been quietly (and rather elegantly) staying up late – with a growing mix of dining rooms, hotel hideaways and “go on then, one for the road” bars that make it far more than a daytime district.
From iconic institutions to sleek new rooftops, here’s where the neighbourhood proves that yes, it does do evenings – and does them beautifully.
Harrods Dining Hall
As chic as it gets. The Dining Hall turns dinner into an occasion – oysters, dim sum, pasta, all wrapped in that unmistakable Harrods glow. It’s buzzy and yes, there’s live music. A glamorous way to end your day or start the night!
Harvey Nichols Fifth Floor Restaurant & Champagne Bar
A reliable go-to for breezy, stylish suppers with zero booking drama. After dark, the terrace feels wonderfully tucked away – perfect for a cold glass of something before drifting into the evening. Ideal, too, if you’re combining dinner with a little late-night browsing once the store quietens down.
Cantinetta Antinori
The recent Tuscan arrival that feels instantly at home in Knightsbridge. There’s an easy confidence to the room – polished service, excellent wine, and that gentle hum that tells you dinner here always starts the evening off on the right foot.
The Lanesborough Library Bar
Genuinely one of my favourite bars in London. Timeless, candlelit and effortlessly glamorous, it’s where you go for properly made cocktails, immaculate service and the faint thrill of feeling like you’re in a very discreet members’ club. Being open until midnight (and 1am Fridays and Saturdays) makes for a flawless nightcap setting. Dry gin, twist, thank you.
Mr Chow
An icon for a reason. Few dining rooms deliver this much theatre: glossy crowds, dramatic interiors and those still-legendary dishes. Open until midnight, it’s the kind of place where “quick dinner” becomes a whole evening.
The Emory Rooftop
A contemporary rooftop with knockout views across London and an atmosphere that feels quietly exclusive. Open until 1am (midnight on Sundays), it’s perfect for late-night cocktails when you want something smart, slick and a little bit special.
SHOT London
A coffee shop open until 11pm may sound niche, but SHOT is a genuine gift – ideal for a late caffeine boost, a cosy corner to regroup or simply somewhere calm to decide where the night is heading next.
Nolita Social
A mood-lit basement bar beneath the Bulgari Hotel channeling a little New York attitude. Weekends bring live music, dancing and the sort of playful, unexpected energy Knightsbridge doesn’t always get credit for.
Nanyang Blossom
A warm, welcoming spot serving vibrant Southeast Asian dishes until 11pm (10:30pm on Sundays). Perfect for a relaxed dinner that still feels polished – bold flavours, easy atmosphere, and a seamless stop before or after drinks.
Park Tower Casino
Open 24/7, this is where the night stretches for as long as you want it to. Whether you’re gaming, people-watching or simply prolonging the evening somewhere plush, it’s a classic Knightsbridge late-late option – and a fun one at that.
