Spring-Summer Trends in Knightsbridge
The fashion world has been enthralled by the turn of trends for so long. Hemlines rise – and then they fall. Black is the new black. Now it’s white. 180-degree flips were de rigueur but, as with all things fashion, the style set has moved onto the next big thing. For a few seasons now, brands have been doubling down on their DNA and presenting the ultimate versions of what each designer does best. There have been rumblings about the death of the trend as the fashion pack no longer pivot to switch up their style every six weeks and instead are concentrating on transeasonal looks that last – and that can be refreshed quickly with a few little tweaks. Think the virality of “quiet luxury” (93.6million views on TikTok and counting) – of course, that’s a trend in itself…
The pull of adding a little something fresh to our wardrobes will never wane but instead of thinking of trends, reframe them as tendencies and moods – these are the ways to bring fashion’s most hardworking pieces into your wardrobe as the weather warms.
Take florals. For spring, a floral dress might not be, ahem, ground-breaking, but with a darker-toned background, these prints have been a runway success story and give unexpected edge to the classic solution for occasion wear. AllSaints and Bimba Y Lola have some of the coolest iterations. Then, for downtime dressing, while it’s warm but not quite hot enough to go without an outer layer, the bomber jacket has proved to be a viral hit. It will work for right now and seasons ahead. Some of the best sporty staples can be found at Lacoste and Tommy Hilfiger.
Although what if your diary is full of occasions that demand a little more polish? After skinny single-breasted blazers being a key menswear silhouette for seasons, the double-breasted fastening is back on the catwalk and we’re thrilled. The style was spotted at Giorgio Armani and Gucci, both of which can be found in Harrods. If you’re shopping on a high-street budget, we recommend Reiss and Ted Baker to tick off the trend. Wear your jacket as part of a suit for maximum smarts, or with slick tailored trousers in a tonal colour. Just avoid jeans – the blazer and denim combo feels a little too basic for spring/summer 2024.
Those keen to keep their overall style intact should consider the addition of a well-chosen accessory as a fast update. The ballet flat is claiming status as a perma-trend and spring’s freshest iterations are in palest pink, bejewelled with diamante or in a lightweight mesh finish (NB: un-pedicured toes will be on display.) Find the widest array at Zara. For men? Classic loafers are conversely the most on-trend style of the season yet will last for years. Pick a pair from the timeless options at Church’s or Crockett & Jones and wear with bare ankles, now it’s finally warm enough to slip out of your socks.
Then, consider finessing your look with visor-style frameless sunglasses, which will nod to the current obsession with vintage Y2K style (find the biggest choice at Sunglass Hut).
Voila, your spring 2024 wardrobe update will be complete, without looking like a fashion victim. Now, all that’s left is to keep everything crossed for the sunshine to stay…
