From dessert cafes to food from the French Riviera, Restaurant magazine’s Stefan Chomka uncovers the food trends to watch for the year ahead
Five restaurant trends to look out for in 2025, and where to find them in Knightsbridge
Live music
Restaurants that serve food with a side of live music have been opening across the UK in recent months, catering to diners looking for a bit more theatre when eating out. Knightsbridge is no exception, with the recently revamped The Georgian having a live soundtrack as part of its proceedings. Located on the fourth floor of Harrods, the new-look dining room, which celebrates the restaurant’s 120-year history, is home to a number of chandeliers and yet without doubt it is the white grand piano in its centre that is its most striking feature. Come teatime, diners can tuck into confit duck sandwiches and pistachio religieuse while the tinkling of ivories fills the air. For those looking for something a little more upbeat, head over to Sette at the Bulgari hotel, where on the weekends the New York Italian restaurant serves a New York brunch accompanied by a live band.

Specialist dessert cafes
There’s no question that desserts and sweet treats have taken the capital by storm, whether it be gigantic croissants, fluffy Japanese pancakes or crème brûlée doughnuts and the trend is showing no signs of slowing down. Turkish sweets specialist Şekerci Cafer Erol has just touched down in Knightsbridge bringing its famous baklava, pound cakes and milk puddings to the UK for the first time as well as giving customers the chance to try the viral Dubai chocolate filled with pistachios. Located next to Harrods, the shop is a haven for anyone with a sweet tooth, with glass cabinets bursting with chocolates, the flakiest of pastries and a colourful array of other Turkish delicacies. Sweet lovers can also get their fix at other Knightsbridge newbie Hafiz Mustafa 1864, the Turkish confectioner known for its baklava, Turkish delight, a kadayif – a sweet spun Ottoman pastry. The only sensible thing to do is to try both places – for research purposes, of course.

Riviera cooking
Food from the French Riviera is very much à la mode and will continue to be so in 2025, thanks to the opening of La Môme at The Berkeley. The brainchild of French restaurateurs Ugo and Antoine Lecorché, who already run restaurants in Cannes and Monte Carlo, La Môme London will be a huge 250-cover restaurant that is promising to ‘bring the glamour of the French Riviera, past and present’ to the high-profile hotel when it opens in January. Expect quintessential Mediterranean dishes with a taste of Provence and Italy that have been given a ‘contemporary and glamorous twist’. When it comes to tip-top French Riviera cooking, La Môme’s the word.

Fast-food redefined
Everybody loves a bit of fast-food now and again, but sometimes it doesn’t come up to scratch. This is where chefs have stepped in, taking classic fast-food items and elevating them to new heights. New entrant Hot Dogs by Three Darlings in Harrods is one such place, where top chef Jason Atherton and former The Ritz head chef Spencer Metzger have created a hot dog menu unlike any that’s come before. Each of the five sausages that make up the hot dogs are different, with globetrotting options including the Souk’ Dog – a lamb dog topped with harissa, sour red onion, tahini yoghurt and coriander; and The Texican Fiesty ’n’ Fiery – a beef sausage with guacamole, jalapeño salsa, squeezy cheese and chipotle mayonnaise. If you prefer your fast-food deep fried, then another option is The Mayfair Chippy’s new Knightsbridge restaurant. Here, you can tuck into elevated classics of cod or haddock and chips and mushy peas, as well as a superior fish-finger brioche butty.

Italian cuisine
Italian cuisine, whether it be pizza, pasta, regional or New York style is hotter than fiery ‘nduja at the moment, and nothing is about to change. Pizza brand Homeslice recently chose the fifth floor of Harvey Nichols for its first new restaurant in six years and has upped its Italian game by offering a menu of other dishes alongside pizza for the first time. New options include stracciatella and caviar; wagyu polpette; deep-fried olives; and meatball sliders as part of its ‘For the Counter’ offer, and mains such as spaghetti hash with wagyu beef. There’s more to come in the way of Italian food, too: keep your eyes peeled for Alba, a new restaurant serving dishes from the Amalfi Coast that is opening in Knightsbridge in the New Year.
