5 things to do in Knightsbridge this August with kids
Kids Go Wild Art Trail
New for 2024, the public family friendly trail Kids Go Wild is the latest addition to Kensington & Chelsea Art Week, capturing the imagination of visitors to Brompton Road and King’s Road. Beginning in Royal Avenue and finishing outside Knightsbridge tube station, follow the footsteps of nine bronze sculptures by artists and wildlife activists Gillie and Marc, New York’s most prolific creators of public art as named by The New York Times, and become part of the journey with opportunities to play a white rhino at chess and ride a tandem bike alongside the artists’ beloved characters Rabbitwoman and Dogman.
Raising awareness of endangered species, each sculpture features a QR code for families to find out more about the lives, needs and threats to each animal brought to life by the British and Australian artists. Open until 30 August 2024, the free trail, funded by the Knightsbridge Partnerships and King’s Road Partnership, brings together the wonders of the natural world and the art world for a fantastical afternoon.
While you’re there, why not visit London-based artist, designer, educator and cultural change-maker Simone Brewster’s Spirit of Place in Hooper’s Court? The objects represent Amorim’s cork forest at Herdade de Rio Frio, Portugal. In the face of climate change, cork is one of the most versatile materials available to us. ‘I wanted Spirit of Place to link back to Tropical Noire [Brewster’s collection of sculptural vessels] and I wanted to take some of the things that I played with and learned at that scale and enlarge it,’ the artist says.
